Announcing the Winners of the 2014 Apprentice Contest

The Indiana State Pipe Trades Association held their annual Apprentice Contest in Indianapolis, Indiana at the training center for UA Local 440, Plumbers, Pipefitters & HVACR Service Technicians, located at 3747 S. High School Rd. The host of the Apprentice Contest, the Indiana State Pipe Trades Association (ISPTA), brought apprentices from six Indiana Locals around the state. Kent Prosser, ISPTA Financial Secretary-Treasurer said “The men competing are some of our finest apprentices. The contestants came here to show off their skills and to win the title of #1 in the State.” The winners of this years’ contest are:IMG_3552

#1 Pipefitter: KEITH KEPPLER, of South Bend, UA Local 172

#1 Plumber: PAUL HORVATH, of South Bend, UA Local 172

#1 HVACR Service Tech: LEVI SCHAVE, of Indianapolis, UA Local 440

#1 Welder: MITCH SCHWENK, of Evansville, UA Local 136

The winners will go on to compete in the United Association District 2 Apprentice Competition to be held this June in Pennsylvania. James Johnson, Business Manager for Local 440 in Indianapolis said “Congratulations to all of the winners, it was a tough competition this year. All of the contestants were top-notch.”

Indiana State Representative Dave Niezgodski was on hand to see these hardworking Hoosiers in action, and said “This was a good opportunity to see these Apprentices demonstrate their many years of superb education and on the job training. It has been an exciting competition and I congratulate the contestants for excelling at their craft.”  Representative Niezgodski is a proud United Association Member of 33 years.

“This was a good display of how Hoosiers are training highly skilled workers to build Indiana’s future,” said Indianapolis Mayor Gregory Ballard. Indiana

Superintendent of Public Instruction Ritz was excited to see a part of the 2014 Apprentice Contest of the Indiana State Pipe Trades Association. “We are preparing all of our children for careers, and with today’s career options, students must have post-secondary training. Pipe fitters, welders, and HVACR Service Technicians are careers in high demand. I urge high schools to partner with the Indiana State Pipe Trades Association to offer entry programs that can lead many of our young people into good economic sustainable careers.”

Indiana 2014 Apprentice Contest To Be Held in Indianapolis

The 2014 Apprentice Contest of the Indiana State Pipe Trades Association to be held March 19-20, 2014 at Local 440, 3747 S. High School Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Please join us to watch Indiana’s highly trained plumbers, welders, pipefitters & HVAC service technicians show off their skills in this annual competition. We are looking forward to watching them compete for state-wide bragging rights, industry recognition and the opportunity to compete at the UA Regional Apprentice Contest.

Local 440 is excited to announce the 2014 Apprenticeship Contest will be held at our training facility in Indianapolis.  Please join us for  our open house on March 19, 2013 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM.  The contest will be in full swing and the day will also include a tour of the facility, vendor tables, and refreshments.
